Brief Summary of Unit
Students will understand that finding the answers to research questions requires the use of a variety of primary and
secondary sources, following the conventions of documentation makes an essay stronger, and that sometimes
research questions need to be modified to fit the available information. By the end of this unit, students will be able
to synthesize information from varied sources, make judgements about conflicted findings from different sources, adapt the initial research question, analyze different opinions, consider all opinions, and be aware of their own opinion. They will know the difference between opinion and fact, the correct way to document information, at least two different opinions about their topic, new vocabulary, MLA format, and the conventions of formal writing. At the end of the unit, students will produce a blog that presents the facts, at least two different opinions, and their own opinion about their topic.
